The purpose of the ignition system is to ignite the air/fuel mixture in the combustion chamber at the proper time. The charging system has two essential functions: (1) Generate electrical power to run the vehicle's electrical systems. (2) Generate current to recharge the vehicle's battery. The starting system has three functions: (1) Use a powerful electric motor to drive the engine. (2) Drive the engine through a pinion gear. (3) Disengage as soon as the engine starts.
